A little more about me:

Kaitlyn Fagan

I have a decade of experience in diverse therapeutic settings, including inpatient hospitals, intensive outpatient group programming and in-home therapy settings. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with individuals, couples, and families, who have significant psychiatric needs and extensive trauma histories.  I am a Perinatal Mental Health Certified Provider, a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional-I, and I have advanced training in CBT, DBT and in different treatment modalities for psychosis.

I decided to start my own private practice after working full-time and raising two kids so that I could make work-life balance a reality for myself.  I also recognized the great need for more outpatient therapists offering individual therapy in our local communities and wanted to be a part of helping my community.  As a therapist, I provide individual therapy to young adults and adults impacted by a wide range of mental health concerns using  a combination of psychodynamic, evidenced based, and trauma-informed therapeutic approaches.

In our sessions, I will focus on the strengths you bring and work collaboratively with you to set goals and the pace of our work together. My therapeutic style is marked by warmth, humor, active listening, and an unwavering commitment to empowering my clients to develop essential coping skills.

SPECIALTIES

I specialize in Perinatal Mental Health, Life Transitions, and Trauma & PTSD.  However my breadth of training and experience spans many client concerns and identities.  I aim to create a safe and inclusive space where all of your unique identities are respected and celebrated. I am grateful that you have found your way to my practice and look forward to learning how I can help you grow!

Experience

During my professional journey, I began as an intern at Providence Behavioral Health Hospital and the Institute of Living (IOL), gaining valuable experience in providing mental health care in both inpatient and intensive group therapy programs.  Subsequently, I transitioned to a role at South Bay Community Services, where I continued to apply and expand upon the skills acquired during my internships. At South Bay, I served as an Outreach Therapist, connecting with and supporting individuals and families in the community.

Following this, I returned to the Institute of Living, this time in a professional capacity, contributing to the Adult IOP/PHP Program by providing intensive group therapy for adults with severe psychiatric needs and extensive trauma histories.  I also served as an Older Adult and Adult Inpatient Clinician at the IOL, where I honed my skills in providing trauma-informed care to adults (ages 18 to 80+ years) facing acute mental health challenges. In private practice, I continue to work part-time at the IOL's Peripartum Mood Disorders Program in Hartford, CT.

These experiences have not only deepened my clinical expertise but have also provided me with a nuanced understanding of mental health care spanning various settings and diverse age groups. Whether working in inpatient facilities or engaging in community outreach, this journey has increased my skill set in addressing and treating the multifaceted needs of individuals across different age brackets who are navigating various mental health challenges.
